WELCOME TO THE SUN HOUSE

Once the home of a Scottish spice merchant, this colonial house built in the 1860’s has been converted into a small hotel which exudes a country house atmosphere. With seven highly individual bedrooms, it is well known for its fine dining, its privacy, and its eclectic collection of artwork, books and furniture. Perched high on a hill, yet only a five minute stroll away from the center of the seaside town of Galle, The Sun House offers panoramic views of the Galle and the World Heritage site of Galle Fort.

At The Sun House we offer our guests the chance to be transported back to the relaxed lifestyles of the early tea planters, when a day began with a hearty breakfast and finished with a cocktail at sunset.

This glorious house has been renovated to maintain its colonial charm and elegance. The large central living area is the heart of the house. Here, at the end of the day, guests can browse through our vast and interesting library, sink into a relaxing sofa, or listen to whatever music takes their fancy. Drinks or cocktails are available: anything from a pot of up-country tea to something a little stronger like the famous “Sun House Sour." Our mixologist would be delighted mix up a surprise cocktail at Dick’s Bar, located at the Sun House and nominated as one of the best cocktail bars in the world. Unsurprising that it has become Galle’s meeting point of choice.
